Barbara Geraghty served in the Navy for 31 years, beginning her naval career as a member of the first class to graduate women from the U.S. Naval Academy. She was a member of the Information Professional Community, responsible for providing telecommunications services to Navy units afloat and ashore. After retiring in 2007, Barb became a “professional volunteer,” active in areas from adult literacy to public health non-profits. She was Board President of the Tidewater Affiliate of Susan G. Komen and co-chair for the 2011 Race for the Cure. She instituted the first PurpleStride Tidewater 5K event to support fundraising for pancreatic cancer research in 2014. She also served as a Board Director of ABNB Federal Credit Union from 2011-2020.
A life-long learner, Barb graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master of Science in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School, a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and a Master of Public Health from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and Old Dominion University. She was employed at EVMS from 2017-2018, administering a grant to reduce diabetes in Portsmouth, VA. Dedicated to life-long learning, she is currently enrolled at Old Dominion University taking courses in Political Science.
