Position Summary
This position supports the U.S. Department of Education Old Dominion University Teacher Immersion Residency (ODU-TIR) grant that is funded for 2009-2013. This person reports to the Project Director of ODU-TIR. The position requires managing the activities associated with this grant including organizing and facilitating a teacher residency program for pre-service teachers; organizing and facilitating a mentoring program, facilitating curriculum infusion with university faculty and 6-12 teachers; and supervising graduate assistants employed by the grant.

Essential Duties, Task and Responsibilities
" Coordinates the activities and functions of the ODU-TIR project
" Oversees the development and facilitation of meetings, workshops and conferences at ODU and in the partner schools; monitors logistics, scheduling and participant communications.
" Interacts with and sustains liaisons with students, staff, faculty, schools, and community partners to facilitate program objectives.
" Oversees work plans in accordance with established project objectives and funding limitations.
" Develops and maintains the ODU-TIR website with its Online Professional Learning Community feature.
" Designs, develops and distributes materials that communicate grant activities.
" Orders equipment as specified by grant during the grant period. Supervises the set-up and ongoing maintenance of all equipment owned by the grant.
" Performs tasks related to the recruitment and admission process of students as well as student contractual obligations and follow-up.
" Supervises graduate students employed by the grant. Establishes work schedules and work priorities. Reviews completion of work.
" Provides administrative support to the Project Director.
" Develops, writes, and disseminates communications and promotional literature, such as newsletters, brochures and flyers.
" Provides assistance, information and guidance to faculty, staff, students, and community partners regarding the project activities.
" Facilitate team building among students, faculty, and school partners.
" Assures all university and federal policies are followed.

This list of essential duties, tasks and responsibilities is not all inclusive; individual will perform other related duties assigned by direct supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
" Master's degree required in teacher education or related field.
" Strong organizational skills and be capable of supervising graduate assistants.
" Strong relationship building and management skills;
" Ability to use application software (word processing, database, presentation), E-mail, Web page design, desktop publishing,
" Ability to work comfortably in a team environment, and
" Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality project deliverables
" Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills


Desired Qualifications:
" Experience working in a higher education environment or with higher education students

" Three years experience in a secondary education setting

Funding & Salary
" Continuation is contingent on future grant funding. Salary will be commensurate with experience up to $60,000 per grant year.

Applications are invited for a Grant and Contract Administrator at Old Dominion University Research Foundation.

Old Dominion University Research Foundation provides administrative services in support of Research and technology transfer activities of Old Dominion University and its affiliated organizations. The Research Foundation performs contract negotiation, financial reporting, purchasing, accounting, payroll, and human resources functions for sponsored research projects. In Fiscal Year 2008, the Research Foundation managed approximately $43 million in research expenditures.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Grant and Contract Administrator is a sponsored program professional performing in pre- and post-award sponsored programs administration functions. Key responsibilities of a Grant and Contract Administrator include:
" interpreting grant and contract requirements, as well as, funding agency guidelines with investigators, management, and staff;
" the development of standard proposal budgets and supporting documentation, including budget justification and any required forms for inclusion in proposals;

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates require a bachelor's degree or equivalent and one year related experience in grant and contract budgeting, proposal preparation, and submission processing; or one year related experience in post-award administration from negotiations through closeout. Demonstrated knowledge and application of federal regulations for research administration including OMB Circulars, FAR/DFARS, and federal agency guidelines, and prior work in a higher education financial or research administration environment is preferred. Position requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field such as finance, business administration, or contract administration.

POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - #09027

The Department of Biological Sciences at Old Dominion University, a "Doctoral Research - Extensive" state university, has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position in marine molecular ecology and evolution. The appointment is grant funded (renewable up to 3 years maximum) beginning between January or early Spring 2010 depending on availability. This position involves participation in an NSF-funded project to examine the population genetic and phylogeographic patterns of marine species in the Indo-Malay-Philippine archipelago and offers an excellent opportunity to develop a long-term research program in the world's most diverse marine environments. The successful candidate will be expected to live full time in Indonesia and potentially the Philippines and Malaysia planning and carrying out field sampling trips, and supervising the operations of a molecular laboratory. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach a course in molecular ecology, supervise and mentor both American and foreign graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory and field, maintain the project website, and take a prominent role in administering the project. All analyses, and research authorship, will be in collaboration with host country scientists, so the successful candidate will have a major role in developing collaborative projects with foreign scientists and students as well as obtaining all necessary research permits from foreign governments. POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - #09025

Full-time position: to participate in a National Science Foundation-funded project that is focused on understanding the physical mechanisms controlling cross-shelf exchange on Antarctic continental shelves and how this exchange relates to melting of the base of the ice shelves and thereby influencing glacial movement. The work will involve both realistic and process oriented numerical model simulations. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in marine science or equivalent; must have experience with computer systems, FORTRAN90/95, numerical circulation modeling, and scientific writing. Applicants must have experience setting up and running an ocean circulation (or similar) model (ROMS is preferred), analysing numerical model results and knowledge of physical oceanography. Experience with sea-ice models is beneficial. The applicant is expected to prepare research results for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, make presentations at national and international scientific meetings, and attend project-related workshops. The initial appointment is for one year with a possible renewal for a second and third year, pending satisfactory review of each year's results. DEPUTY DIRECTOR, VA. COMMERCIAL SPACE FLIGHT AUTHORITY (VCSFA) - #09024

A. Specific Duties:-
1. Responsible and accountable for the execution of all spaceport infrastructure and launch programs including but not limited to cost, schedule and performance requirements. Deputy ensures contracts and invoicing is accomplished and reflects the timing and scope of program/contract.

7. Represent and promote authority with federal, state and local governments, collaborating organizations, business and academic institutions.
8. Work in conjunction with the Executive Director to establish VCSFA as the east coast leader in commercial space flight support services, including identifying, recruiting and developing space industry professionals to execute the Authority's mission. Provide strategic leadership to build commitment and develop resources for the organization.
9. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and VCSFA Board.

POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - #09022

Old Dominion University has recently established a Center for Accelerator Science in partnership with Jefferson Lab. The Center will expand educational and research opportunities in accelerator science by bringing together researchers across several disciplines.

One initial focus of the Center will be RF superconductivity, both in the understanding of its underlying physics and its application to cavities and accelerator designs.

The Center invites applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow position to support its activities toward the design and development of superconducting structures for a variety of accelerator applications. We are looking for an individual with interest and demonstrated capabilities in performing state-of-the-art numerical simulations of electromagnetic structures. The incumbent will be expected to interact closely with hardware developers and be involved in the prototyping and testing of the superconducting structures and associated components, both at ODU and Jefferson Lab. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to participate in a number of collaborations toward the development of superconducting accelerators for a wide range of applications.

The incumbent will be expected to take an active role in the development of the Center and publish the results of the research in refereed journals and conference proceedings.

Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Accelerator Physics or related field.
Demonstrated ability in numerical techniques as applied to particle accelerators.
Familiarity and fluency in a number of electromagnetic simulation codes (Microwave Studio, Omega3P, MAFIA).

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - #09020

The ODU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is seeking a Research Associate to work on the transformation of algae to biodiesel. More specifically, the incumbent will investigate kinetics and mechanisms for the conversion in order to design efficient processes in the laboratory and pilot scale.

Required skills for the position are: familiarity with modern analytical methods (nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and mass spectrometry) for study of organic matter, with installation of new experiments at laboratory and pilot scale, and with chemical analyses of pyrolysis products. POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - #07017

Two postdoctoral positions in NanoBiotechnology, Protein Chemistry/Proteomics, Single Molecule Detection and Single Cell Analysis are available immediately in the Old Dominion University PhD Program in Biomedical Sciences. One research project will involve the design of novel molecular probes and imaging tools for single cell analysis, and development of new mass spectrometer methods for proteomic analysis of living organisms. The other research project will involve development of novel single-molecule microscopy and spectroscopy, and nanobiotechnology for biochemical and biomedical applications.
